How to Build a Mini WSM

The build actually goes pretty quickly. The most difficult part is removing part of the bottom of the pot.

The bottom of the pot will need to be cut out. The entire bottom will not be removed. The bottom edge will be needed to rest inside the bottom of the Smokey Joe. Flip the pot upside down and mark the cutout on the bottom using the clay saucer as a template. Centering the clay saucer will leave about 1″ of the bottom exposed all the way around.

Drill a pilot hole inside the cut line with a 1/8″ bit. Follow that with a bit that will make a hole large enough to slide the jigsaw blade through.

Carefully cut the bottom out of the pot. Be sure to wear your goggles. Bits of aluminum in your eye is not fun.

Use a file or piece of sandpaper to deburr the cut edge of the pot’s bottom. I only had 220 grit handy and it worked fine. The burrs sanded off with little effort.
